Decoratifs is a high contrast display typeface that pays homage to the Art Deco movement’s clean geometric lines and angular architecture; a refer- ence selected due to its theme-apt connotations of wealth, opulence and sophistication. New materials and means of manufacte resulted in a more refined, streamlined approach to design, evident in the creation of confident, sharp typography. Around a hundred years on from the height of this movement and its culture of conflicting prohibition and excess, Decoratifs serves as a tribute and memorial to the stylistic influences of the period. Its lowercase characters (a set of well-designed small capitals), allow for the typeface to be successfully utilised in title and subtitle contexts, whilst details in the ‘A’ and ‘H’ are reserved for the capital variations of these letters, their larger scale allowing for the presentation of such nuanced additions.
